Performances are April 19, 20, 21 (Thursday-Saturday) at 8 p.m. and April 21, 22 (Saturday-Sunday) at 2 p.m. in the Playbox Theater, Fine Arts Building, Level 3.

Stephanie Hutchinson: The Start of Something Real – The Secret Rose Theatre to produce an evening of short plays and musicals by Los Angeles-based playwright/composer/lyricist

North Hollywood, CA - One of today’s brightest writers of ten-minute plays and short musicals, Los Angeles-based Stephanie Hutchinson has had a long relationship with the Secret Rose Theatre. A collection of her works, entitled The Start of Something
Real, will be presented for two weeks only at the Secret Rose on July 8 through July17, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 PM, and Sundays at 2:00 PM. This production will be the first to feature Hutchinson’s work exclusively, and includes six short plays and
two short musicals.

Several plays in the show have been published and produced, including Carwash; or In This Town, You Are What You Drive, which was a finalist in Secret Rose Theatre/Fire Rose Productions’ Ten-Minute Play Competition in 2008. Also included in the show are:
The Stone Cat, Super 8 Versus Bacara Resort and Spa, More Precious Than Diamonds, the Musical, The Truth About the Trash In the Trailer, You Can’t Be Tony!/The Start of Something Real and Museum Tour, the Musical.

Stephanie’s association with the Secret Rose Theatre began in 2007 when her play Model Home was a Semi-Finalist in Fire Rose Productions’ 10-Minute Play Competition.

In the following years, she was called upon to submit short musicals for Fire Rose/Secret Rose Theatre’s Mini Musical Festivals. She wrote the music and lyrics for April in New York (book by Virginia Lynn Emrick) at ANMT (the Academy for New Musical Theatre), which was produced on the Secret Rose stage in 2008. Hutchinson adapted
her play, More Precious Than Diamonds into More Precious Than Diamonds, the Musical in 2009, writing book, music and lyrics, as well as being the Musical Director/Pianist for the ten-show run. Broadwayworld.com gave the show an excellent review.

Smith and Kraus published Hutchinson’s play Model Home in THE BEST TEN-MINUTE PLAYS 2007. Super 8 Versus Bacara Resort and Spa and More Precious Than Diamonds were published in THE BEST TEN-MINUTE PLAYS 2009, and Carwash; or In This Town, You Are What You Drive, was published in THE BEST TEN-MINUTE PLAYS 2010.

Directors Jonathan Levit, Derrel Maury and Eva Minemar plus a cast of twelve talented actors will bring the six plays and two musicals to life.

THE TRUTH ABOUT THE TRASH IN THE TRAILER - Two very different L.A. sisters fly to Arizona to help their Great-Aunt, a stranger, move into a nursing home-at least, that's the plan…Comedy.

YOU CAN’T BE TONY!/THE START OF SOMETHING REAL - A model home stager invents the perfect man (client) to gear her home decor to, but when he shows up and claims the house, fireworks begin. A Double Play. Romantic Comedy.

MUSEUM TOUR, THE MUSICAL - The Old West meets The Twilight Zone when a sophisticated Angeleno visits a Western museum. Musical Comedy.

What happens when an imaginative single woman, turning 40, can't wait any longer for a Tiffany diamond?  Find out in MORE PRECIOUS THAN DIAMONDS, the Musical (book, music and lyrics by Stephanie Hutchinson; directed by Jonathan Levit).  Julie and Michelle enter Tiffany's Beverly Hills.  Juie's practical married friend, Michelle, tries to talk her out of buying herself a diamond.  A handsome but nerdy salesman persuades Julie to try on a $84,900 ring, which gets stuck.
