Stephanie Hutchinson is an award-winning Playwright/Composer/Lyricist.
Her first ten-minute play, MODEL HOME, was published by Smith & Kraus in THE BEST 10-MINUTE PLAYS 2007, 3 OR MORE ACTORS. Two other ten-minute plays, SUPER 8 VERSUS BACARA RESORT AND SPA and MORE PRECIOUS THAN DIAMONDS, were published by Smith & Kraus in THE BEST 10-MINUTE PLAYS 2009. CARWASH; OR IN THIS TOWN, YOU ARE WHAT YOU DRIVE was published by Smith & Kraus in THE BEST 10-MINUTE PLAYS 2010. Stephanie adapted MORE PRECIOUS THAN DIAMONDS into MORE PRECIOUS THAN DIAMONDS: The Musical, doing triple duty as the Book Writer/Composer/Lyricist. MORE PRECIOUS THAN DIAMONDS: The Musical ran for 10 performances in North Hollywood as part of the Secret Rose Theatre’s “Mini Musical Fest”. The Secret Rose Theatre produced "The Start of Something Real: Short Plays and Musicals by Stephanie Hutchinson", featuring 6 short plays and 2 short musicals. The show included 12 actors and 3 directors and had a six- performance run. Recently, two of Stephanie's plays were produced in festivals at Naugatuck Valley Community College (Connecticut) and the University of Montana, Western. SUPER 8 VERSUS BACARA RESORT AND SPA was a winner (by audience vote) out of nearly 200 entries in Camino Real Playhouse’s Showoff! International Playwriting Festival in San Juan Capistrano. CARWASH; OR IN THIS TOWN, YOU ARE WHAT YOU DRIVE was a Finalist in Fire Rose Productions’ ACToberfest play festival at Miles Playhouse in Santa Monica. Stephanie received the AOPW (All Original Playwright Workshop) Fellowship, including a staged reading of four of her 10-minute comedies. She is the Composer/Lyricist of APRIL IN NEW YORK, which enjoyed a 12-performance run at the Secret Rose Theatre as part of “The 10s” (Festival of New American Musicals). APRIL IN NEW YORK was developed at ANMT (Academy for New Musical Theatre). Stephanie has also participated in Lisa Soland's AOPW (All Original Playwright Workshop) and Trey Nichols' Workshop. Before picking up the pen/pencil, Stephanie earned her BM (magna cum laude), MM, and DMA degrees in Piano Performance from the University of Southern California. She served on staff at USC, Pepperdine, Glendale College and Santa Monica College, accompanying and teaching piano and voice. She also toured extensively as Principal Accompanist with the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus. In addition, she directed a handbell choir at a Southern California church for 11 years (which inspired her full-length play, SILENT NIGHT). Stephanie is a member of the Dramatists Guild, ASCAP, ALAP (Alliance of Los Angeles Playwrights), and LAFPI (Los Angeles Female Playwrights Initiative).
