Stephanie Hutchinson is an award-winning Screenwriter/Playwright/Songwriter. During the pandemic, her Broadway Producer mentor encouraged her to study screenwriting, and the very same day she was invited to study screenwriting by a writer's group (where she had been the only playwright among a sea of screenwriters).
Stephanie's first screenplay, OUT OF THE FLAMES, won the Grand Prize of the Kairos Prize for Spiritually Uplifting Screenplays, including a $15,000 award, and also the Grand Prize (Drama) of Screenplay Festival, as well as a $500 award. Stephanie's plays and musicals have been produced in festivals at the University of Texas, El Paso, The Colleges of the Fenway (Boston), Ohlone College (CA), The University of Northwestern (MN), Naugatuck Valley Community College (Connecticut), the University of Montana, Western, Redwood High School (Northern California), Kent-Meridian High School (Seattle), McPherson High School (Kansas), St. John's School (Houston), Beth Tfiloh School (MD), Camino Real Playhouse (San Juan Capistrano) and Cone Man Running Productions (Houston). Her first international production was in Germany, at the prestigious Schule Schloss Salem boarding school. SUPER 8 VERSUS BACARA RESORT AND SPA was a winner (by audience vote) out of nearly 200 entries in Camino Real Playhouse’s Showoff! International Playwriting Festival in San Juan Capistrano, CA. SPEAK NOW OR FOREVER HOLD YOUR PEACE was one of 7 finalists (out of 300 international entries) in 2015's Showoff! festival, and the only play by a female playwright. The Secret Rose Theatre in North Hollywood produced "The Start of Something Real: Short Plays and Musicals by Stephanie Hutchinson", featuring six short plays and two short musicals. The show included 12 actors and 3 directors and ran for six performances. Stephanie adapted MORE PRECIOUS THAN DIAMONDS into MORE PRECIOUS THAN DIAMONDS: The Musical, doing triple duty as Book Writer/Composer/Lyricist. MORE PRECIOUS THAN DIAMONDS: The Musical ran for 10 performances in North Hollywood as part of the Secret Rose Theatre’s “Mini Musical Fest”. MORE PRECIOUS THAN DIAMONDS: The Musical charted as Top Album on CD Baby's Show Tunes and its three songs charted #1, #2 and #3 on Show Tunes, as well as #1, #2 and #3 on Musicals/Broadway. Both MORE PRECIOUS THAN DIAMONDS: The Musical and MUSEUM TOUR: The Musical attracted hundreds of international fans on Radio Airplay internet radio, especially teens in Asia and the Middle East. CARWASH; OR IN THIS TOWN, YOU ARE WHAT YOU DRIVE was a Finalist in Fire Rose Productions’ ACToberfest play festival at Miles Playhouse in Santa Monica. Stephanie received the AOPW (All Original Playwright Workshop) Fellowship, including a staged reading of four of her 10-minute comedies. She has participated in Lisa Soland's AOPW (All Original Playwright Workshop) and Trey Nichols' Workshop as well as in Broadway producer Ken Davenport's writing groups, led by Eric Webb and Amanda Yesnowitz. Before picking up the pen, Stephanie earned her BM (magna cum laude), MM, and DMA degrees in Piano Performance from the University of Southern California. She served on staff at USC, Pepperdine, Glendale College and Santa Monica College, accompanying and teaching piano and voice. She also toured extensively as Principal Accompanist with the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus. In addition, she directed a handbell choir at a Southern California church for 11 years (which inspired her full-length play and screenplay, SILENT NIGHT).
